this latest collaboration between nick mackrory and harry collier is a blend of electronic and organic acoustics with a balearic twist. their musical relationship stems from the early 90s and this current project highlights their easy union, experience and flair.

as mood ii swing, production duo lem springsteen and john ciafone became one of the most in-demand remixers in the late 90s. the duo s production career began modestly, however. after a failed attempt at r&b, the two turned to house music. early productions such as sylvano s * helpless* and wall of sound s *critical* were a step in the right direction, as were releases such as -i need a bitch- for cutting and -searchin - for groove on, but it was the duo s remixes of ultra naté s * free* for strictly rhythm that struck gold. the song became a huge hit and soon mood ii swing was remixing big-name producers like bt (-remember-) and king britt (* the reason*) as well as the next ultra naté single, * found a cure*, which also became a huge hit record around the world. then, as a testament to the duos success, the new york-based nervous have dug up the remixes mood ii swing did for the label during their seminal mid 90s period re mastered and re released on wax for 2016.

the girl and the chameleon will probably fall under the genre tags of acid, electro and techno but it is so much more. witschkowski has been responsible for exemplary electronics throughout his career and this latest is undeniably some of his best. the album sees the exaltics don a dust mask. warehouse parties, strobe lights and fog machines and the 90s underground acid scene are definite influences. but theres more. across thirteen tracks and two slabs of wax the jena artist takes you on a journey into his world. gnarled and clinical grooves, caustic 303 encounters, depraved dancefloor destroyers and soothing machine music. a sonic trek through tough and taut textures with touches of tenderness. an album that shows a depth of ability, an enviable talent and a knowledge of how to break floorboards.

immersed in the early days of the 90s midwest rave scene, bill converse began djing at a young age in lansing, michigan. luminaries such as claude young, traxx, and twonz were key early influences. since moving to texas in 1998, he has experimented with analog techniques in varied studio bunkers. early techno, noise, ambient, tape, and paranormal processing are all part of his uncanny sound palette.

with this new project, madben & yann lean get back to the essence of techno with a raw sound based on groove, textures and catchy hooks. influenced by 90s rave sound et artists like jeff mills, surgeon, dj pierre, dave clarke or dj funk the french producers like to write their music on-the-fly and are adepts of a very spontaneous track conception. with trunkline they bring back the unique texture of analogic techno. trunklines vinyl label will release the duos eps. they plan to release one maxi per trimester. the project will also take to the stage as a four deck dj set and then a 100% machine live performance in the summer of 2016.

by now, we ve come accustomed to tabernacle records exploring the outer reaches of detroit-influenced techno, electro and ambient. even so, their latest outing from regular contributor jeremiah r is something special. beginning with the floatation tank-in-space ambience of chorus, calisto sees the producer laying down a whopping eight cuts that variously touch in drexciyan electro, artificial intelligence-era idm, and hard-to-define hybrids that confirm the intergalactic potential of electronic music. interestingly, the music is roughly equally split between horizontally inclined, beat-less explorations, surging dancefloor workouts, and the kind of mid 90s home listening fodder that sits somewhere in between.

modern tapes are back with a new ep on floyd unit records! the pairing of the techno producers, living between bari and new york, and ian russo has yielded 2 extraordinary tracks where 90s industrial techno meets spacey dub chords and lush ambient soundscapes.

the imogen label launched back in september with a pair of ilija rudman remixes of london acid jazz favourite brand new heavies. this second release sees them change tack somewhat, adopting an archival focus to dig out two tracks by croatian hero ilan kabiljo. known mostly for his 90s work, kabiljo comes from legendary croatian music stock - his father was composer and musician alfons alfi kabiljo. this expression 12inch sees imogen dig through the ilan archives for two rare and unreleased tracks records in 1990, with a side cut cool nights a supple midnight saunter through jazz funk that highlights kabiljo s compositional class. golden days is just as good as sounds like a loving homage to the 80s.

criss source, born in essen, was known to be one of the most talented djs of nordrhein-westfalen already in the early 90s. his track >hugs n kisses< (mauritius music) advanced to be one of the most played tracks in electronic music worldwide and became a must-have for many international djs. he followed up with releases on labels like circles, echoplast or supra. and of course his new single saxphunk & dubphunk on our imprint blufin.

his career began in the mid 90s as part of 1st down, which consisted of phat kat on vocals and jay dee on production. the group was short lived however, possibly because of insufficient support/promotion from their label, payday, but the two continued to collaborate on many occasions afterwards, starting with an appearance on fat cat song and its remix, from slum villages fan tas-tic (vol. 1).

the two track evolutions ep sees enzo siragusa and alexkid each give us their own personal take on the infamous kilimanjaro sound. label head enzo once again fuses his junglist past with sleek tech beats on the a side in the form of desire skippy percussion imbuing the track with a real sense of funk before a monster 90s style b-line cuts through the mix to really nail the floor.
alexkid steps up with his trademark dubby style on the flipside with wear your cape, razor sharp percussion and a cavernous bass taking the track to deliciously lofty heights. both tracks are logical progressions from the notorious kilimanjaro sound they pioneered.

first up on hungarian hot wax we bring the heat with some choice chops and stabs in the form of uk born australian based producer beigean. stush 97 pays tribute to the uk garage sound of the 90s and the stush garage nights in particular where as blow out her back is a raw nswjack groover. both tracks make for one spicy release which is sure to score high on the scoville scale. hot stuff! mastered at alchemy london.

tom middleton and mark pritchards 76:14 is one of the 90s most acclaimed electronic albums, while a cast of aliases (reload, jedi knights and more) also orbited the project. their last record came out in 1997, and although there was a live reunion in 2010, the new material we were promised is yet to emerge. pritchards nowhere to be seen on this remix of duskys skin deep (its middleton flying solo), but its still an occasion. according to dusky, we knew we wanted someone special and we knew we wanted someone who would get to the heart of the melodies and textures in the breakdown. tom has totally delivered, creating something that draws on the heritage of the ambient sound, but also feels current and modern.

traxman, the ghetto house producer based in chicago, active since the mid-90s with multiple releases on the legendary dance mania records, released 6 brand-new dancefloor trax on dizzy tunes.

cold colors was born in bordeaux, france, in the mid 70s. his passion for music, particularly new wave and melancholic atmospheres, started early and strongly influenced his own creations years later. the first records he ever bought were the cure, depeche mode and soft cell. in the 90s, frederick bought his first guitar and composed songs under the name agent orange. in 2002, the cold colors project was born, with a release on the excellent lux records, as well as many live performances. fred loves working with machines. his music mixes warmth and melancholia, an obvious homage to cold wave and new wave, by blending todays electronic music with the melodic sounds of yesterday.

drumma records presents its second collaboration with romanian duo vinyl speed adjust (vsa). the ep titled the awakening shows us vsas intelligent approach to music, an ideal fit at drumma records where creatively effervescent music is embraced with open arms. the record has 4 tracks. the eponymous the awakening is a special trip between break rhythms, modern jazz and a dreamy perpetual arpeggio. it creates a great mood for artists who want to present something special during their set. a2 is the grind, a very strong and acid track with a powerful evolving bassline that creates perfect suspense. inspired by the 90s, its raw and its analogue, definitely a hot track. monoxide comes with a linear rhythmic pattern and a very deep sub-bass sound fused with trippy synth soundscapes, ideal to put in a mental note during a session. the release is topped off with an amazing remix by the great valentino kanzyani. hes brought his own approach to the grind. the remix is a track with very strong groove and an intelligent evolution that creates small sonic worlds at every turn. valentino knows how to masterfully work a constant crescendo where tension and rest is perfectly resolved and we can feel his approach to techno at its best.

new x-masters! after the massive nicholas/morning factory release its finn gold with the 2nd x-masters. finn gold resisted his routines and started working on some other music... opening track is a briliant cover version of the classic atmosphere. pretty bold to cover such a classic, but finn gold nailed it! flip side gives 2 other excellent 90s inspired tracks for the body and soul. pretty amazing release!! recommended.

devoted to the art of movement is the first record from nss (no spiritual surrender) a duo formed by j.c. (ahd co-owner together with damian schwartz) and kastil this e.p. centers it s attention towards electro, but continue ahds heritage of giving a twist to those 90s sounds that influenced us so much, from early idm to detroit, all is present here. the opening track is the one that gives the ep it s name, an acid stomper build around an electro beat that builds up and down fiercely. the track maintains its tension throughout its whole length by building strings and arpeggios over its acid sequence, never transferring its beat to a straight kick, capturing the attention since its first second. proposed playground is build around a more steady electro beat, strings and sounds merge themselves around the beat to create a beautifully hypnotic piece where where some background melodies tickle our ears bringing memories from idm golden years. zero one is closing track, without leaving the electro rhythms the defined the whole ep the track is build around a phrenetic synth sequence that sets the path for the whole length, rhythms are rough and strong and its syncopated hitting adds emphasis on that frenzy atmosphere since its first second till the last.

throwing rave parties since 2011, the bp collective has been founded with the objective of bringing a new breath to the french underground techno scene. in the bp tag und nacht” parties the visual universe tends to merge with the sound. each of the two stages has something different to tell: tag for the open air, nacht for the dark and smoky room. this project is based on the belief that the story told by sound depends on the visual atmosphere in which it is played. indeed this very first ep is built between those two atmospheres, the 4 tracks of the ep could be played in any of the two scenes tag or nacht with a totally different impact on the audience. on the tag stage, both of the tracks are colorful, atmospheric and dynamic whereas on the nacht stage, they become dark, trippy and powerful. this record is the first release of the two artists x1000 on the a side and vidock on the b side. both of them are part of the bp collective since the beginning, they draw their influences from the 90s detroit and belgium techno and trance scene. its difficult not to think about artists like the martian, model 500, robert leiner or the whole r&s label while listening to these 4 tracks.
